Frequently Asked Questions

What is a "redshift"?

Redshift refers to the Doppler shift of an object moving away from you very quickly, and how it's appearance shifts to the red part of the visible light spectrum. Blueshift, or when an object is moving towards you very quickly, was also considered as a name, but we found out that the name was too good and other people thought of it before us.

What operating systems will RedShift work on?

RedShift is being developed primarily for Linux, FreeBSD, and Windows. We expect it to also compile cleanly on other *nix systems, but we have not yet tested it on those systems.

How did you pick June 24th for the first release?

It was purely random. We wanted it to be sometime before the end of June, but some time late enough that we could be sure to have a decent, working product ready. But don't worry, 0.1.0 will hardly be the final product, but merely a playable product that you can try out and give me suggestions for future versions.

Did you know that June 24th is the last day of asparagus season in Germany?

No.

Did you know that Peter Weller (RoboCop) was born on June 24th?

Also a no.

Did you know Petra Nemcova was born on June 24th?

Yes, that's the real reason this date was chosen.
